Pure Water

The body is made up of 60-70% water! It is the main component in all of the bodily fluids such as lymph, digestive juices, urine, tears and sweat. It is involved in major bodily functions such as circulation, digestion, absorption and elimination. It is an extremely important element that carries nutrients and minerals throughout our body. Water helps our body eliminate toxins that are creating illness; it heals the pain of physical wounds, it nourishes our skin. The list is extensive of the benefits of pure water; unfortunately there is also a long list of health problems associated with not enough of the good stuff. Some are diabetes, arthritis, asthma, back pain, cataracts, chronic fatigue syndrome, colitis, depression, heartburn, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney stones, lupus, migraine, multiple sclerosis, and muscular dystrophy.

Why Eat Organic

In order for food to be certified as organic it must be produced under specific legally-regulated standards and be subject to testing to retain the proper certification. On the farm the crops must be grown without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers, sewage sludge and processed without food additives (like chemical preservatives). The animals must be raised without the routine use of antibiotics or growth hormones and fed a diet consisting of organic foods only.

Yogi's Dilemma - Should I Eat Meat

This question has sure to have been lingering throughout a yogi’s mind at one point or another. For some of us we struggle with finding the right answer, hoping that we are making the right decision. We have been taught that in many traditions vegetarianism is considered the only way to enlightenment. When deciding what to eat you should consider what your body needs, be true to yourself and make good choices. Anyone that is going to look down at you for any reason should take a look at their self and ask if their judging of others is very “yogic”. There is no judging in yoga! Yoga means union and when we make judgments on others we are stepping of the path, creating anything but a peaceful world.

Eating Locally

Being a “locavore” is the name for those of us that enjoy eating local foods. It is an important part of the green movement. Aside from the pleasure of shopping for the freshest ingredients; whether they are from the natural food store, the local farmers market or a community supported agriculture produce subscription programs (CSAs), there is a myriad of health and environmental benefits. As conscious consumers, we are able to make responsible consumption choices to lighten our social and environmental footprint.
