Our vision at Yoga Health & Healing includes reaching out to causes philanthropically.  I have learned that healing happens on many levels, especially when we serve others.  To that end, each month Yoga Health & Healing will feature one charitable organization to support, we will donate a percentage of our income to our featured charity each month.

Grant recipients have had cancers ranging from breast, colon, pancreas, lung, and brain to leukemia and lymphoma.

Shark Savers

www.sharksavers.org

Our mission is to save the sharks.

We focus on education and awareness because most people still think sharks are out to kill them, or don't know that sharks are being fished towards extinction, or are unaware of the disastrous impact that shark eradication has on the oceans and food supply, or don't know that mercury in shark fin soup is hazardous. We empower people to take action in their own lives and community to further shark conservation and to stop their consumption of shark products.

Shark conservation is an enormous challenge because sharks are being fished out of the water by the millions each month and cannot reproduce fast enough to overcome overfishing. Sharks are already gone in many of the areas where they were once plentiful. The fishing pressure against them continues relentlessly, largely because of the market demand for their fins. We do see recent signs of hope in the results of actions of people and organizations throughout the world, although not enough to lessen the urgency of this mission.

Programs include our campaign to reduce shark fin soup consumption, generating support for conservation efforts throughout the world, and in creating education and awareness programs about sharks.

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network

www.pancan.org

How We Accomplish Our Mission

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is the only national organization creating hope in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure. The organization raises money for direct private funding of research—and advocates for more aggressive federal research funding of medical breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network fills the void of information and options by giving patients and caregivers reliable, personalized information they need to make informed decisions. We create a sense of hope and community so no one has to face pancreatic cancer alone. The organization helps support individuals and communities all across the country work together to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for pancreatic cancer.

ASPCA

www.aspca.org

Our organization was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and must be protected under the law. Our mission, as stated by our founder, Henry Bergh, in 1866, is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.” As the first humane organization to be granted legal authority to investigate and make arrests for crimes against animals, we are wholly dedicated to fulfilling the ASPCA mission through nonviolent approaches. Our organization provides local and national leadership in three key areas: caring for pet parents and pets, providing positive outcomes for at-risk animals and serving victims of animal cruelty.

Cambodian Children's Fund

www.cambodianchildrensfund.org

CCF was originally developed as one shelter providing a safe haven for 45 children in critical need. Within four short years, the CCF has grown to incorporate five separate facilities, where nearly 400 children receive nutrition and housing, as well as medical treatment, dental services and vaccinations.

CCF children are given a comprehensive educational program that includes local language reading and writing, as well as multi-level classes in English, social studies and math. They also attend evening classes at the rooftop cultural center, where they learn traditional Khmer music, dance and drama.

CCF is also expanding its community relief programs to provide suffering families better access to education, health care, food assistance and safe drinking water - essential in an environment where an estimated 80% of illnesses are water related. Only through self-sufficiency can the generational cycles of poverty and abuse be broken.
